I honestly can’t believe how vast and inventive the area of the building is! Architectural constructions that are new, imaginative, and fascinating are the norm since architects constantly strive to improve upon their own ideas. The beginning of a new year is usually exciting because innovative ideas are only being started and are slowly evolving into trends. These trends are frequently updated and improved iterations of time-tested architectural concepts or brand-new inventions that entirely revolutionize the sector! And we’ve put together a group of fascinating architectural ideas that we think will be huge in 2022 and may stick around for a while. These futuristic trends in architecture, which range from basic, ecological tiny dwellings to floating buildings, appear to be here to stay.
1. Small Houses
We’ve been attempting to incorporate sustainability into every part of our lives—including our homes—ever since the pandemic shook up the world. Tiny homes have totally taken over the world of architecture and secured their place as sustainable, basic, and affordable micro-living settings as everyone strives to live an eco-friendly and conscientious lifestyle. What was once just a cute little fad is now becoming into a viable alternative for interior design. They are an environmentally friendly and space-saving living option that lightens the burden on Mother Earth! In contrast to the overwhelming and materialistic residences that seem to have taken over, they are straightforward and understated alternatives.
Nido is a little cabin with a 100-square-foot floor plan to comply with Finland’s zoning restrictions, which exempt homes with floor plans between 96 and 128 square feet from the need for a building permit. The two-story cottage maintains a low profile thanks to its white-painted frame parts and unstained hardwood paneling, which give it a touch of simple elegance. The modest cabin’s entrance is reached via a simple ramp walkway made of wooden planks, which also links to the side deck. Inside, the home’s natural wooden interior and the soothing colours of the Nordic-inspired color palette are complemented by slanted, large windows that flood both floors with natural light.
2. Prefabricated Buildings
Recently, prefabricated architecture has become quite well-liked and popular. It generally entails constructing buildings or various components at a specific place that is better suited for construction, then transporting them to the final site or location after they are finished. Prefabricated architectural designs provide a number of advantages, including lower costs, increased sustainability and efficiency, and a focus on simplicity and adaptability. Meet ARCspace, a company that specializes in modular architecture and is continually developing new ideas and materials to help the prefabricated housing construction industry reduce emissions.
All buildings are prefabricated to provide speedy and highly effective construction that minimizes waste and emissions. The buildings are reportedly “spec-built from the ground up in 40-60 percent less time and cost than typical construction,” according to ARCspace. Residents have a wide range of interior design options to choose from, including optional components that supply off-grid power and water, and can completely customize their tiny homes or even scale them up to the size of conventional residences. Some residences have Hydropanels, which are grid-free, self-contained atmospheric water generators that extract a few liters of drinking water daily from the air.
3. Homemade Structure
There’s a new trend in architecture that, in all honesty, we wholeheartedly support: DIY! Imagine constructing your own house or vacation retreat! Imagine being able to lay around and enjoy the results of your own labors. Furthermore, these architectural ideas don’t call for a lot of work either, so relax! These straightforward DIY structures frequently come flat-packed or with a comprehensive kit that guides you through every stage of the procedure. DIY building demonstrates not only how easy and affordable this method is, but also how much waste and needless materials it eliminates!
Micro Modula, a larger multi-disciplinary design firm and brand founded by designer Mariah Hoffman, includes Lola, a tiny house on wheels that examines “home, place, and the self.” Hoffman gradually converted an old utility trailer into a 156-square-foot mobile small home over the course of five years. Hoffman created Lola as a result of a daydream in which she constructed her own house in order to “learn all the required skills for [her] personal and creative survival. Hoffman was particularly inspired by desert modernism’s essentialist edge and chose building materials that were both aesthetically pleasing and provided some practical components for the house to withstand the local wildlife and seasonal changes.
4. Ecologically Sound Architecture
Living in a sustainable, mindful, and wise way has never been more important given how crazy the world has become since the pandemic hit. Instead of depleting the planet’s resources and shortening her life, our dwellings should harmoniously blend in with her and nourish it. It has never been more important to be at one with Earth and to take excellent care of her. Sustainable building has become quite popular among architects in an effort to promote an eco-friendly lifestyle! They have been creating eco-friendly homes. These houses are designed to peacefully coexist with nature, enabling us to live in harmony with our surroundings. They promote an eco-friendly lifestyle and lessen their carbon footprint.
With its “Living In The Noom” architecture, Sanzpont Arquitectura of Mexico immerses you in both luxury and nature. The three main pillars of its sanctuary-like design are Wellness, Sustainability, and Flexibility. A variety of triangular-shaped, four-story residences with vertical bamboo canals and a vertical forest growing on their exteriors may be found in the neighborhood. The building ends in a rooftop terrace with solar panels for energy consumption and collection and an urban garden where people can grow their own food. The project incorporates bioclimatic and sustainable strategies such as rainwater harvesting, wastewater separation, wetland for greywater treatment, biodigesters, compost area, and most notably the vertical forest on the outside of each building, which in addition to adding a touch of greenery, also filters/purifies the air entering the house and helps lower the temperature of homes — a phenomenon more commonly known as the Heat Island Effect.
5. 3D printed buildings
Why shouldn’t architecture be an exception to the 3D printing that is already being used for nearly everything? A growing number of architectural businesses are choosing 3D printing as their preferred method of construction. Additionally, 3D printed architecture is steadily gaining acceptance and momentum. This new style is creating a place for itself in contemporary architecture. And really, it’s no surprise given all of its advantages! It’s a quick, easy, and creative method that reduces the likelihood of mistakes while simultaneously managing to save time. Many tiresome processes in the construction process are eliminated and simplified by 3D printing.
Even floating islands and habitats on Mars are being constructed using it! The use of 3D printing in architecture has limitless potential and amazing possibilities. With just 27 hours of labor, ICON 3D printed a 500 square foot structure. It will serve as a welcome center for Austin’s Community First! Village, which will provide men and women leaving a life of chronic homelessness with affordable accommodation. ICON is bringing six more 3D-printed houses to the neighborhood! The dwellings will be constructed utilizing automated equipment and cutting-edge software, as well as a special concrete known as Lavacrete. The newly printed home has black, white, and natural wood details that together create a neat, basic room that is beautiful to live in!
6. Solar-powered Buildings
An incredible source of energy, solar power is a sustainable and environmentally friendly substitute for fossil fuels. Almost everything is now powered by solar energy, from tiny battery packs to entire homes! No exceptions apply. And it seems that solar-powered and green buildings are the newest trend right now—and a highly eco-friendly one at that! Solar energy is being used to power and maintain a wide variety of architectural constructions, from tiny residences to vacation cottages. These buildings respect the surrounding natural environment and coexist in peace with it rather than draining it.
E-glamping is a good or service created to promote economic and tourism growth in rural areas. Imagine it as a combination of a little residence à la Airbnb with a bike-sharing service like Bird or Lime. It is a network of contemporary cottages, each of which has its own independent solar power source. Additionally equipped with smart technology, these small residences are linked to an e-bike system that promotes carbon-neutral landscape exploration.Biking not only contributes to maintaining the area’s clean air but also to obtaining a great workout in. All of the E-glamp dwellings are mobile, modular, and made of environmentally friendly construction materials like wood. Along with solar panels, it will be interesting to see how the design is able to also repurpose and reuse rainwater for the guest’s needs.
Trends in architecture always develop but the most important and unchanged feature is to have comfortable living conditions. The modern houses should be energy efficient, it is pretty easy to reach it if you have solar panels. Greenhouse gas emissions due to natural gas, petroleum and gas may be also reduced by using solar panels and other alternatives instead. Trends in architecture also depend on a climate change, whether they should be commercial buildings or for living. It influences on the creation of new preferred material every year. But sustainable materials are always very popular. A design process, not only materials, plays a great role in creation of new build structures.
